Radar Signal Simulator (RSS) AN/PLM-4
for Electronic Warfare

EDO's Electronic Warfare (EW) Radar Signal Simulator (RSS) is a portable, self-contained, lightweight, flexible, and cost-effective radar simulator that tests Radar Warning Receivers (RWR).

The RSS is designed to be used on aircraft, helicopters, surface ship, submarines, and land vehicles to test their detection and identification capabilities against the latest hostile threats.

We can customize the RSS or build similar test equipment to meet your Radar Warning Receiver or Electronic Warfare (EW) testing requirements. The AN/PLM-4 is so customizable that EDO is building a whole product line around the RSS. The AN/PLM-4 products, options, and accessories include:

Automated Radar Signal Simulator (ARSS)
UHF Remote Option
End-to-End Test System
Electro Optical (EO)/Radio Frequency (RF) Sensor Test Set

Radar Signal Simulator General Description:
The Radar Signal Simulator (RSS) AN/PLM-4:
Is a user programmable, lightweight, highly mobile test set that generates pulse and scan modulated Radio Frequency (RF) signals.
Radiates, using internal antennas, toward the System Under Test (SUT) allowing the user to evaluate the SUT operation or perform diagnostics.
Is self-contained, operates from internal batteries or external AC power, and can be hand carried and operated by a single person.

Can be used for testing:

Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) Systems
On-Board Self-Protection Electronic Countermeasures Systems
Electronic Warfare (EW) Pods
Electronic Warfare Support Measures (ESM) systems

Radar Signal Simulator
Can be connected directly to the Radar Warning Receiver, bypassing the antennas, for test and troubleshooting.
Has a Remote Terminal that allows an operator to remotely control the Radar Signal Simulator functions. An operator seated in an aircraft/helicopter under test can visually determine the operability of the Radar Warning Receiver by observing the RWR displays.
Has a scenario capability that enables rapid testing and allows the RSS to be used as an end-of-runway or dockside pre-mission tester.
Is very flexible and can be adapted with other equipment to provide enhanced EW testing. For example EDO designed a very cost-effective End-to-End Test System (ETETS) around the RSS AN/PLM-4. Download and save or view online our ETETS brochure.
